Marie Curie College – now open!
We held a reception on 7th November to mark the opening of our new Sixth Form facility, “Marie Curie College”, named in honour of the famous scientist, who was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and who celebrated her 150th birthday on the same day as the event.
A £100,000 investment has enabled an old library to be transformed in to a bright, modern and comfortable area for Sixth Form students to use for study and relaxation, and which incorporates a dedicated canteen which is open throughout the day.
Head Student, Ruth Mazzey from year 13 said “the high ceilings and multiple windows let in a lot of light, making it a nicer atmosphere to work in. We believe this investment will have a positive impact on many upcoming sixth-formers for years to come.”
Our Principal, Mr Wayne Barnett, thanked Leigh Academies Trust for their support for the project which provides the facilities to support potential future growth in Sixth Form student numbers.
