The Marie Curie Post-16 College offers excellent standards of teaching to ensure that students are equipped with the best education which will allow them to access a range of Post-18 pathways. Our programme of study, combined with extra-curricular activities and personal development, will help enhance applications to Universities and future employers. We ensure that all our students receive specialist support in terms of careers, future training and informed university choices, including a substantial guidance programme for UCAS applications. When our students leave us, they are fully equipped to embrace the challenges of Higher Education, with many gaining places at prestigious universities; securing employment or embarking on Gap Year travel experiences.

Marie Curie was a Polish-born physicist and chemist and one of the most famous scientists of her time. Having discovered two new elements – radium and polonium, she carried out the first research into the treatment of tumours with radiation and was instrumental in developing X-Rays for use in surgery. Together with her husband Pierre, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1903, and she went on to win another in 1911. Not only is she the only person who has ever won Nobel Prizes in both physics and chemistry, but she was the first ever woman receive the award.

In addition to academic studies, there will be a number of opportunities to develop personal interests, as well as undertake work experience and gain useful qualifications in skills for employment. An individual study programme and extra-curricular activities will help enhance applications to Universities and future employers. We ensure that all our students receive specialist support in terms of careers, future training and informed university choices, including a substantial guidance programme for UCAS applications with university visits and speakers visiting from Higher Education institutions.

Our facilities include a large common room and designated Sixth Form study and IT area, alongside a modern Arts building housing dedicated performance areas for Drama and Dance. Our well-equipped facilities for Music Production, Recording and Technology are also hugely popular with our students. Our sports facilities are excellent, with a state of the art, all weather 3G pitch.

Admissions for 2016/2017 have been processed, and we are holding our induction days on 27th June to 29th June 2016, which is strictly by invitation only. Students will be able to gain an insight into what is in store for them in September and to aid a successful transition between GCSE study and Sixth Form life. They will experience a taster of all their preferred A-Level and vocational lessons, with the opportunity to trial subjects they may not have experienced before.

For students currently in Year 10, moving into Year 11 in September 2017, our Sixth Form Options Evening will be held on Monday, 10th October 2016 from 6pm-8pm, and applications for September 2017 can be submitted via www.UCASProgress.com the following week. In the meantime, please take a look at this year’s prospectus for our current curriculum to get a flavour of the subjects the September 2016 cohort will be undertaking.

We are committed to providing the best life chances for all our students, developing their confidence and abilities to become successful young adults ready to take on the challenges ahead of them.
