Kent 16+ Travel Card

From 4th June 2018 applications and payments for 16+ Travel Cards are made directly to Kent County Council.

It is recommended that you make an online application for the card, although it is possible to print off an application form from their website, complete it and then post it, together with a passport photograph and cheque/postal order payable to Kent County Council, to the following address:

KCC offer the option to purchase two half-year Travel Cards at £200 each, rather than pay for the full year up front; the dates and prices are as shown below.

  • 1st Half Year Travel Card – 1st September 2018 to 1st March 2019 – £200
  • 2nd Half Year Travel Card – 25th February 2019 to 31st August 2019 – £200
  • Full Year Travel Card – 1st September 2018 to 31st August 2019 – £400

Payments are made online at the time of application, using a credit or debit card.  You will also need a passport style photograph in electronic format to upload at the time of applying for the card.

To be sure that the Travel Card will be ready for the start of term in September, KCC have specified that they need applications to be made by Friday, 13th July 2018.  However, applications can be made at any time of the year up until 24th May 2019.

Applications for the 2nd Half Year Travel Cards can be made from 19th November and should be received by KCC by 4th January 2019 to be sure that students will have their cards for the start of term 4.

KCC state that applications can take up to 28 working days to process at busy times of the year.  They do not refund bus fares, so you would need to be prepared to cover the normal daily cost of travel to school whilst waiting for a Travel Card to arrive.

Travel Cards will be sent to Mascalls Academy so that they can be collected by students on the first day of term, or as soon as the card is ready, for applications made at other times of the year.

Please note that 16+ Travel Cards can only be used on public bus services, and not on private hire routes.
