Principal’s Update – Face Coverings

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this short update finds you and your families well. You will have undoubtedly heard the announcement by the Prime Minister on Saturday regarding the emergence of a new variant of COVID known as Omicron. Following this briefing in addition to additional measures nationally, the Department for Education announced that from today (Monday 29 November), the government strongly advises that face coverings should be worn in communal areas in all settings by staff, visitors and pupils in year 7 and above, unless they are exempt. Pupils (in year 7 or above) should also continue to wear face coverings on public and dedicated school transport, unless they are exempt.

We will be following this latest advice and request that parents/carers ensure that their children are equipped appropriately for both transport and the wearing of facemasks during the academy day as recommended. Cases remain extremely low in the academy community, the time to implement additional measures is not after they have risen and as such is a precautionary measure in this instance. Please support this.

We would also like to remind parents/carers of the increased testing using the academy provided LFT kits, we ask that students test on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings making the academy aware of any concerns as soon as possible.

If you have concerns of an individual nature, please speak to your son/daughter’s college team. As this guidance follows that issued nationally, our staff cannot guarantee a response to discussion about government policy.

Yours sincerely,

Mr W Monk
