Summer Fun Week

26th, 27th, 29th and 30th July

We are delighted to announce our new Year 7 Summer Fun Week is due to take place on 26th, 27th, 29th and 30th July.

The fun-filled days will be held at Mascalls Academy, consisting of a range of Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA), Performing Arts and Design Technology workshops.

The OAA’s will be delivered on 26th, 27th and 29th July by ‘The Outdoor Education Company’, an experienced organisation who provide mobile adventurous activities to schools and deliver a programme that offers the opportunity for pupils to build strong teams, engage in challenging activities, grow in confidence and have fun. Safety considerations have been made and risk assessments carried out to ensure everyone’s safety. Each group will be supported by a member of the Academy staff and who will provide necessary pastoral care.

Each day will involve pupils working in groups to tackle a variety of challenging but enjoyable tasks which range from the more physical to the more logical, and allow different strengths of the group members to shine. The programme has been designed to inspire pupils to build new friendships, communicate, work together and motivate themselves and others. Activities include; Laser Tag, Climbing, Skateboarding, Boccia/Kurling, Archery, Team challenges, and Aeroball.

On Friday 30th July, our Performing Arts and Design Technology departments will be delivering a range of exciting workshops, in Dance, Drama, Music and Design Technology. These workshops have been designed to inspire pupils and provide exciting opportunities free from curriculum constraints.

In order to ensure a swift start each day, pupils must be dropped/arrive in the school bus park 15 minutes before the start of the day. Below are the timings of each day. Please note that Monday 26th begins at 9am to allow for the welcoming and a health and safety talk.

Pupils should wear sports clothing for all activities throughout the week and must bring a bottle of water. I would recommend keeping an eye on the weather forecasts and suggest bringing sun cream and a hat and/or a coat depending on the weather. Outdoor activities will go ahead in wet weather, unless there is torrential rain. We will not take responsibility for any lost or damaged personal items. We ask that mobile phones be switched off throughout the day.

Our catering company, Cucina, will be supplying a cold lunch for every child. This will consist of a selection of sandwiches, crisps, fruit, cookies and a drink. If your child has any dietary requirements or allergies, please provide this information on the consent form. Your child is welcome to bring their own packed lunch if preferred.

Pupils will form a year 7 bubble, and for all activities will remain in the same group for the week. This will allow us to carry out a secure track and trace system. Should your child present with symptoms please do not send them in and inform us via email at enquires@mascallsacademy.org.uk. Should your child display symptoms during the day at Summer Fun Week, they will be isolated and you will be notified to collect immediately.

If there is any change in government COVID-19 restrictions and we are unable to run the activity for any reason we will inform you as soon as possible.

This week is fully funded, and there are 120 available places. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To secure your child’s place please complete this google form by Monday 12th July. You will receive an email to notify you of your successful place by Friday 16th July.
