Year 8 WWI Experience Day Trip

NOTIFICATION OF SCHOOL VISIT

  • Title of Visit: World War One Experience Day
  • Date of Visit: Wednesday 16th July, 2025
  • Students Involved: Year 8 History Students
  • Destination: Kent County Showground, Detling Hill, Maidstone ME14 3JF
  • Travel Details: Meet in the Mascalls’ bus bay at 9am straight after advisory. Travel by coach to Kent County Showground. Travel to/from coach park to/from the WW1 trench site on foot. Return to Mascalls’ bus bay at 3pm.
  • Purpose of visit: To support student understanding of Module 6, World War One.
  • Nature of activities: Students will attend a WW1 trench tour as well as detailed presentations on the British Soldier’s uniform/equipment, a demonstration of trench weapons and the development of trauma medicine in WW1.
  • Cost and payment: The cost is £36.83p.  This covers the coach and the ticket for the day’s experience.  If you require financial support or have any further queries please contact the trip leader (ian.matthews@mascallsacademy.org.uk) and include the student name, form, trip title and a brief reason for requiring assistance. They will then be able to provide information regarding any financial assistance that may be available to you.  
  • Confirming your place: To request a place for your child, please complete the consent form using the link below by Monday 2nd June 2025. This trip is very likely to be oversubscribed and therefore the payment details will not appear on your Scopay until your place is confirmed by email. Please note that no monies can be refunded unless cancellation is made by the school. If allocated a place on the trip you are bound by the terms and conditions of the travel company.

  • Required on the day: Full PE Kit, change of footwear, waterproof coat/sunscreen and hat, packed lunch, water, a pen and pencil, carrier bag for dirty shoes if possible.
  • Other details: Should any parents have concerns over the financial aspect of the visit; they should contact the trip leader for assistance. Please note that students may spend some time in the vicinity of teachers but not in their direct company whilst in groups of 3 or more.
