Our Marie Curie College Sixth Form offers excellent standards of teaching to ensure that students are equipped with the best education which will allow them to access a range of Post-18 pathways. Our programme of study, combined with extra-curricular activities and personal development, will help enhance applications to universities and future employers.
We ensure that all our students receive support in terms of careers, future training and informed university choices, including a substantial guidance programme for UCAS applications. When our students leave us, they are fully equipped to embrace the challenges of Higher Education, with many gaining places at prestigious universities; securing employment or embarking on Gap Year travel experiences.
Marie Curie was a Polish-born physicist and chemist and one of the most famous scientists of her time. Having discovered two new elements – radium and polonium, she carried out the first research into the treatment of tumours with radiation and was instrumental in developing X-Rays for use in surgery. Together with her husband Pierre, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1903, and she went on to win another in 1911. Not only is she the only person who has ever won Nobel Prizes in both physics and chemistry, but she was the first ever woman receive the award.
In addition to academic studies, our students will have a number of opportunities to develop personal interests, as well as undertake work experience and gain useful qualifications in skills for employment. An individual study programme and extra-curricular activities will help enhance applications to universities and future employers. We ensure that all our students receive support in terms of careers, future training and informed university choices, including a substantial guidance programme for UCAS applications with university visits and speakers visiting from Higher Education institutions.
Our facilities include a large Common Room and designated Sixth Form canteen, alongside a modern Arts building housing dedicated performance areas for Drama and Dance. Our well-equipped facilities for Music Production, Recording and Technology are also hugely popular with our students. Our sports facilities are excellent, with a state of the art, all weather 3G pitch.
Students who progressed to Year 11 in September 2023 can apply to join our Sixth Form in September 2024 by submitting their application via Applicaa by Friday 9th February 2024.
